“Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair...” It's easy to point in any direction today and point directly at someone who is exploiting victims. From crime dramas that exploit society's weakest in the name of 'entertainment' to predatory laws that incarcerate free labor forces all over the world, in both prisons and immigrant detention centers, it is impossible to look in any direction and not see the very worst of humanity - and how they have put a dollar sign on other people's suffering. And it will wear you the fuck down if you look too long... “Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.” Nietzsche That's why the ultimate act of rebellion right now is to embrace, spread, and grow love whenever and wherever possible. Not the clingy love-bombing kind of love, not the brotherhood of the drink kind of love, not the I need to solve all your problems love - but the kind of love that can sit with chaos and suffering and not flinch. And that kind of love is grown and tended to within our hearts and minds. That kind of love is the garden of our soul, and it flowers as much as we let it. Spend too much time looking into the abyss - one that is designed with the polar opposites of good and bad - in order to test us - and you will crumble. That's why the rebel knows it is the gardeners, the artists, the dancers, the storytellers, and dreamers who fill their own cups, and if you're lucky some of yours as well. Spend time with people who put good out into the world. Spend time with your own beating heart and the dreams it holds. There's wonder and beauty all around us, that needs our attention just as surely as the darkness. Being a rebel today means not feeding the monster, but actively choosing to focus on light more often than darkness. We can't ignore our troubles away, but worrying them to death, especially the things we can't control, does nothing but wear us down. So, remind yourself today, and often, the Kingdom of Heaven is all around you... it's up to you to channel it. Namaste, The Storyteller “A flower blossoms for its own joy.”
