Sleaze Land – Chapter 18 (Ring Around the Rosy) Part 2
“Double, double, toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble!”
“Please, don’t hurt him,” Kate begged Emma over the phone.
“He cheated on you.”
“I don’t care. I love him.”
“You should have thought about that before you had me send him to Sleaze Land.
“He’s a good father. He doesn’t deserve this. Our kids don’t deserve this. They already can’t show their faces at school, and it’s a web-based school. How are they even supposed to attend a virtual school when they can’t show their faces?
“That was going to happen even if he didn’t go to Sleaze Land. You know that as well as I do. Because the man has benefitted his entire career from turning women into rape victims, and people of color into nothing more than gang bangers.”
“That’s not true. He did some good work too.”
“He contributed greatly to where we are now. He has to take responsibility for that.”
“Isn’t there some other way?”
“Shouldn’t he have thought of that before one-out-of-every-three of us wound up abused, and worse? Before our contributions became nothing more than bare tits and open slits?”
“That’s not fair.”
“What part of any of this has been fair, Kate? Tell me that. Cuz while I lost my brother to suicide because he couldn’t provide for his family, Clide was flying off to his next big movie, staring even bigger male celebrities… who collectively got to sit out the entire pandemic. Or have you already forgotten how this looks to everyone who suffered?”
“I can’t forget. We’re practically in hiding.”
“You and your kids have tickets off this rock. You want my advice?” Emma asked the woman she’d known since college.
“And what’s that?”
“Take your kids, and don’t look back. Save yourselves the memory of this place. Go to Andromeda, and forget.”
“God, I wish I could.”
