I can't think of one nice thing anyone at SITE Santa Fe did for me the entire time I worked there, except for the Director's Assistant who bought me a birthday treat. No flowers when I got Covid. No complimentary hotel when I participated in Jeffrey Gibson's Exhibit. No Happy Birthday from my boss. No offer to relocate - so I didn't have to keep driving 3 hours to commute. No complimentary coffee or lunches. No flowers when my loved one died. No let up for my PTSD while I was traveling. Though I did get a rave review a year after I had been there. Because I was the perfect dummy - to fill a seat and clean up their messes - and then be discarded as soon as it was convenient. I watched them do it with others. I filed the paperwork. BTW - Everything mentioned above are things my coworkers received - REGULARLY. Yet I received none of it. None. And then... I was fired the day my stalker started harassing them on Twitter. I was fired while on a forced medical leave, while I was desperately ill - trying to get diagnosed with a dire yet rare genetic condition - after they had terrorized me during a work trip. It's enough to make you want to write a book. And so I am. Currently I am working on several books: Rebel Yell - a self-help book for dealing with these troubling times. Lost Luggage - my life story. Yikes! Seedy, Greedy & Needy - the story of a stalker and his enablers Toxic Twitter - self explanatory, really. & Art with an Agenda - because I learned so much from my bosses Louis Grachos & Clara Samayoa. And everyone who worked at SITE Santa Fe while I was there, really. But I especially learned from their skanky ass board of directors... Ya? *As their Accounting and HR Manager - with a RAVE review just weeks prior to my termination - I should know... what Art With An Agenda looks like. #Coming 2027

You grow up tough when you're constantly afraid. You grow up tough when the world decides you're different. You grow up tough when you're poor and you have to hide it. You grow up tough when you grow up defending your right to exist. You grow up tough when every older man just wants a little touch. You grow up tough when you're told you're ugly just so guys can sleep with you. You grow up tough when they hold you down with just one hand. You grow up tough when you learn to use your teeth in self defense. You grow up tough when your older sister is a mortal enemy when you're just 4-years-old. You grow up tough when you've moved more times than years you've been alive. You grow up tough when you attend 3 different 2nd grade classes. You grow up tough when your ability to physically defend yourself is all that's stopping a lot of bad things. You grow up tough when no one is around to support you. You grow up tough when the men in your life justify rape. You grow up tough when you'd rather be anywhere but your childhood home. You grow up tough when the only thing keeping you alive is your wits and the law. You grow up tough when your art scholarship is mocked and you're sabotaged into dropping out. You grow up tough when you deal with devastating injury after devastating injury while being mocked. You grow up tough in a world such as ours, that has no safety net for folks like me. You grow up tough when those in power decide you're the acceptable loss - the pain-filled entertainment for a few... like a rat in a cage. You grow up tough - you learn to fight. But if you can learn to fight - you can learn to fly! X 08/26/2024 |
