Some say it is a myth that King Herod ordered the death of all male children under the age of 2 in and around Bethlehem, out of fear. Regardless, Ruebens captured the scene perfectly here, in order to demonstrate, larger than life, what it means to be heroic. The desperation of a mother trying to save her child from an evil soldier who is blindly carrying out his orders, the indifference of the man about to hurl a baby to the ground, a young girl's arms outstretched to catch the child - hope and fear playing out plainly upon her face, all crowd this very active painting. Massacre of the Innocents tells an immortal story. An old woman is about to be impaled as she too fights to protect the children. It is the ultimate depiction of the classic struggle between cruelty and compassion. Between innocence and indifference. Even today we wonder at its brutality - all while knowing such evil still exists - all around us. We have merely become complacent to any and all unappealing truths through years of conditioning. Just as it was in Ruebens day, during the Eighty-Years War, when everyone was locked into a constant struggle between good and evil. And just as it was then... most don't even recognize which side they're on. Because, for many, it has simply become entertainment vs. boredom - where no thing has been set off limits. Right now, in this day and age, we have chosen to crown clowns instead of good, decent, hardworking, and honest people. And we punish those who stand up and fight against what they are doing to our children. We punch, and kick, and bloody them good - until we can no longer hear their words of truth and justice. All of us, born into an ongoing war, where our children, our most innocent, are the enemy's number one target. So, that's how we will tell... which side someone is really fighting for. What have they done to protect our children? What have they turned our eyes from seeing? We are at the culmination of an age. Soon AI will know and reveal everything. All secrets will be revealed. What side you're standing on - when the dust settles - is ultimately up to you. X 09/16/2024 © Raena Exe 2024 *All rights reserved.
