We Loved Ragnar Because He Was Good

Michael Hirst was given an opportunity to set the world on fire - in a good way.  Instead, he chose to fall in step with the party-line and totally destroy all that was good in Vikings.

I assume it's because Michael writes what he knows - the total disregard of female worth, and empowerment.

He simply could not fathom a society where having male children was not the pinnacle of a man's life.  Probably because of his own continual indoctrination into an unbalanced and sick society.

Had Mr. Hirst struck out on his own with honor and courage, had he taken the unpopular route having the wisdom to see the value of a story about a good man and a strong family, instead of turning everything to sick... and pointless ends, he would have had a show people would rave about for decades.

Instead... most feel a bit queasy and off about the way it all went down.

Which makes me wonder if Michael Hirst can even conceive of a good man. 

I know most adult males today only understand a glimmer of what that really means.  One look at YouTube, TikTok, or at any of the most popular movies and video games shows us just how shallow most males have become.

Especially all those alpha males who want trad wives without the first clue what a trad husband is about.

We have built a society of fluffy men, who expect exploitation, men who proactively surrender their power and authority every single chance they get.  Men who would prefer to play King than understand what leadership looks like.

But good men do exist.  Everywhere.  On every continent.  On every block.

Silently, out of the lime light, they are right now making things better - as and how they can.

All while fighting men like Michael Hirst and Brad Pitt, men who continually beg us to stare into the abyss of failure and debauchery for their own personal gain and fame.

We loved Ragnar because he was good.  And then Michael Hirst killed every bit of him we admired, until it didn't matter if he was dead in a pit of snakes - in fact - good riddance.

So long as we allow our 'entertainment' to be filled with the suffering and failures of others, so long as we feel a need to constantly turn every decent man into a victim or a joke, so long as we belittle what good men do - for the sake of praising worthless men who sell their vanity like whores peddling flesh - we will not have a society that we are proud of.  We will not rise to our fullest potential.

Because without strong men women will never fully blossom, for we live in a symbiotic system.

Ragnar's wife... had she been allowed to blossom within the protective embrace of her husband - Hirst would have created a story worthy of remembering.

Instead, Michael Hirst twisted a family up until they were wrung down to nothing - for the sake of entertainment and his own pride.

And in doing so he left out an entire gender.  He relegated an entire pantheon of Gods to a side-note in a healing ritual.

And that... is the true and lasting legacy of Michael Hirst's "Vikings".
